FAQ
What if I don’t know exactly what I want?
We have experienced staff who are able to advise you on all aspects and types of storage options available. Our team will ask what product
is to be stored, what your budget is and we can also recommend delivery options.
What size shipping containers are available?
We specialise in high quality 6m (20ft) containers. We occasionally have stock of 3m (10ft) container but our specialty is 6m.
How secure are shipping containers?
All our containers are weatherproof, vermin proof and clean.
All containers have locking bars which can be secured with a padlock. Our containers have an additional locking point on the doors with a
cover that protects the padlock from bolt cutters. This is commonly referred to as a Lockbox.
How do I arrange to hire a container?
When you decide that you want to hire a container, call our staff and they will confirm availability and cost.
They will email you a hire agreement (you can also download from our website) and an invoice for the return transport and first months
rental. The invoice included a Credit Card Authority for future monthly payments.
Once the Hire Agreement and Credit Card Authority is received, we will call to confirm a delivery time.
How quickly can I have my container delivered?
Our staff will arrange for the container to be delivered as promptly as possible – sometimes the same day and mostly within 24 to 48 hours.
Our staff will take all your contact details and liaise with our transport companies as well as your onsite contact to ensure your delivery is
hassle free.
What delivery options do I have?
We have experience in a variety of container delivery methods. Most commonly we use tilt-tray trucks,.
Please ask our experienced staff if you need further information about delivery of your storage container.
Tilt trays are around 2.5m wide plus mirrors – ideally an opening of 3m is required to enter the property. It may be possible to enter gates
with an opening between 2.6m and 3m depending on the fence height etc. If you are unsure, call our staff and they will happily advise you
of the options available.
What do I need to do to prepare the site where the container will go?
The site should be fairly level but rarely needs earthworks to flatten it out. The container can be on a slight slope either lengthwise and/or
across so long as all 4 corners are supported.
Regardless of the level of the site, we recommend that wooden blocks or pavers are placed under each corner of the container. This allows
air to circulate under the container and provides inspection points for pest control.
We recommend 100mm off the ground – a 2.4m treated pine sleeper cut into 8 x 30cm lengths will provide 2 blocks for each corner.
Additional blocks or pavers can be used to level the container. We do not recommend using more than 200mm of blocks.
What type of padlock should I use?
If you are using the Lockbox, you will need to buy a padlock with a longer shank. The measurement between the padlock body and the
inside curve of the shackle when closed needs to be 38mm (1.5 inches).
If you are only using the locking bars to secure the container, a standard padlock is sufficient. Some padlocks have a protective shroud
which protects the shackle from cutting when closed.
We do not sell padlocks – your local hardware store or locksmith will be able to supply these.
Can I buy a container that I have been renting?
We do sometimes sell our rental containers. The price is based on the market value of the container and adjusted for any transport that
has been prepaid - any rent that has been paid is NOT deducted from the price.
As a rough guide, the market value of new container is around $3700 and an ex shipping line container that has spent 10 – 15 years at sea
is around $2400. These prices include GST but exclude transport.
As most of our containers were bought new, the market value would be at the mid to upper end of this scale.
Do you have a Rent-to-Buy option?
We do not offer a Rent-to-Buy option. If you wish to purchase a container but don’t have the money up front, we suggest you talk to your
bank regarding a personal loan which mostly offers better interest rates when compared to Rent-to-Buy finance companies.
Can you move loaded containers?
Yes, we offer this service to customers who chose to self pack their own storage container and thus taking advantage of significant savings
on removal costs. We arrange delivery to your premises, you pack and we’ll collect and arrange delivery to your destination.
Be aware that the container will be tilted to load it onto the truck – keep this in mind when loading the container. It is important to make sure
the contents do not move around. It is also important to protect the furniture with padding – old sheets and doonas are often sufficient.
There are tie points along the top and bottom of each wall. If you need to tie items back to the wall, tie a rope from the top tie point to the
bottom one. Repeat this on the next set of tie points along the wall. A rope can then be tied between these two ropes to secure the item.
Can we store our shipping container in your Depot?
We do not have facilities to store customer’s containers and do not have onsite containers for you to store your goods - all our containers
are sent to your property.
Tips on Storing Furniture
Check that all the items you are going to store are dry, that means if your storing household effects, emptying clothes washing machines
/dishwashers of water and checking the pipes are empty…Remove from fridges and freezers all moisture and ice, any damp object
wherever its placed in the shipping container has the potential to cause condensation or mould so be very thorough in checking for damp
items.
Select the items that you are least likely to want out of the container and put these in first. To utilise the cubic capacity, put small items in
drawers and wardrobes and make a location list of them.
Do not put mattresses or soft furniture in plastic bags, even those made for that purpose, they will warm up and draw the moisture out of the
mattress and cause mould and yes “your mattress rather surprisingly” does have a lot of moisture in it ! Best to cover these sort of items
loosely with old blankets or cotton sheets . If the container is going to be filled right up, leave an air gap at the top between your stored
items and the ceiling of the container , of about 20-25 cms
We recommend placing Damp Rid products in the shipping container which absorbs excess moisture in the air. Damp Rid products can be
purchased at Bunnings stores.
It is the customers responsibility to regularly checked their container to ensure moisture and vermin have not affected the container and
stored goods.
Won't a shipping container rust?
No. Later model Shipping containers are designed for ocean transport, and built to withstand sea water, salt air, and high winds. Shipping
containers are typically made with Corten steel, which is a non-corrosive steel. On top of this, they are coated with ceramic paint to make
them highly resistant to all types of weather.
Door to the rear or cab of truck when delivered
Keep in mind when having a shipping container delivered on which way the doors are facing. You can have the doors facing the cab or to
the rear of the truck. The truck will normally reverse into position and the container will slide off the back.
